    Master Class
    Relatability: The Humanity of Speaking

Relatability is one of the most powerful tools we have as speakers. When we see ourselves in someone else we believe that we can. So if you are not delivering relatable stories in your talks then you, at best, leave your audience impressed but unable to connect with your message. This session will change that.  Using improv comedy games and a process James calls "Story Mining" you will learn that you have more stories than you think. After coming to this session you will leave with at least 3 new stories to incorporate into your talks, blogs, videos, podcasts, dinner table conversations. You will also leave inspired to put more YOU in your talks because relatability leads to memorability, and memorability leads to more opportunities.

    Key takeaways for attendees:

    • You have more stories than you give yourself credit for, we just need to uncover them.
    • Relatability is critical as a speaker – the audience must see themselves in you if you want your message to truly resonate and stick.
    • Attendees will leave with at least 3 new stories to tell on stage or in their writing.

James Robilotta, CSP® is an author, professional speaker, personal coach, and improv comedian.   After nearly 15 years, of speaking to audiences willing and unwilling, he has found that we as humans can’t learn from people who are perfect, we learn from people who are imperfect.  Stories in your authentic voice and words powerfully connects you with your audiences to create a genuine impact and memorability in your presentations.

    Virtual Showcase: Joe Schmit

Don't Break the Bank Setting Up Your Home Studio

Dolly Parton has one of the funniest quotes ever when she said; "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap." She was obviously having some fun with her brand while she was laughing all the way to the bank.

I would like to take some liberties with Dolly's quote. "It doesn't cost a lot of money to look professional on a virtual presentation or video produced from your home." In this casual presentation, I will show you how I produce videos that look like one of my photographers from Channel 5 shot it when I did it myself. My setup (not including cell phone) is less than $200.

WARNING: I am not a technical whiz. I keep it really simple but make sure the quality of the audio and video is professional. The videos I produce for clients are another revenue stream and a great way to stay in contact with your best customers. I also offer promotional videos for many of my speeches and the meeting planners love it.

Joe Schmit is an author, award-winning broadcaster, community leader, and popular keynote speaker. As a sports broadcaster, he has covered every major sporting event in the past three decades and has interviewed many of the biggest names in sports. He has won 18 Emmys from the National Television Academy and was also honored with a National Headliner Award in 2001. In 2019, Joe was also inducted into the Minnesota Speakers Hall of Fame and earned his CSP designation from the National Speakers Association.

Before joining KSTP-TV in 1985, he was Sports Director for WBAY-TV in Green Bay, WI. His career also includes positions as weekend sports anchor for KCRG-TV in Cedar Rapids, IA and WKBT-TV in La Crosse, WI. Joe earned his degree in Mass Communications from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Joe is a long time youth mentor committed to advocating for a number of community organizations. He is a past president and board member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Twin Cities and has raised over $3 million for the organization through the Joe Schmit Celebrity Golf Tournament, which had a 16-year run.
